Toxic Toys

Did you know that some materials used to make toys can cause cancer? Yes, you read that right. Cancer. You may now be asking yourself "How can that be? They are marketed and sold to us, to consumers!" Well, that area of the market is not regulated. This means, there are no laws to keep producers from adding these chemicals. What makes this worse is that most of these manufacturers know that these chemicals are harmful!

Even being wary of the materials you purchase won't help you. Are you, again, asking yourself why? This goes back to no regulations being on this area of the adult market. Because there are no laws and because the FDA has not placed any restrictions on or someone to watch over the shoulder of producers, a producer can label an obviously jelly toy as 100% silicone! The toy doesn't even have to contain 0.01% silicone for them to label it as such.

So how you can you protect yourself against these harmful chemicals? Well the CATT, aka The Coalition Against Toxic Toys, suggest you take a few simple steps to insure that you are purchasing a body safe toy.

If you are buying a toy from a sex shop where you can handle the packaging or toy, it is suggested that you do a "smell test." If a toy has a chemical smell to it that you can detect outside of the package, don't buy it. If you don't smell anything outside the package but get the toy home to find a smell, wash the toy and allow it to air out for a day or two, if the smell doesn't dissipate, don't use the toy.

Another tip for buying a body safe sex toy is to read the packaging. Most of the time if a company is questionable they will have labeled the toy as "For novelty use only." I don't know about you, but for me this raises some red flags. If a toy is sold to a sex shop, marketed on the majority of the package as a sex toy, even comes with instructions for sexual use, why is it labeled that you should not use this toy for anything but novelty? My theory is this label is to avoid legal issues if this toy causes you bodily harm. Did you get that? Again, just my theory, but it makes sense.

A tip I have gathered by looking at a few Jars of Doom, look at your toy! If it is sweating, peeling, sticking to other toys, has discoloration, or anything of the like, it probably isn't safe to stick inside your body.

If you are still wary of toys, I highly recommend you merely buy from a reputable producer. I did not write this post to scare you off from using adult products, as they are and can be a wonderful addition to your sex life, but to educate you on how to protect yourself.

Finally, I recommend you further educate yourself with the following articles. And feel free to Google this issue and find information for yourself.

TMI Tuesday #4

Happy TMI Tuesday and…

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

pot of gold and rainbow_tmi
Q1. You found your pot o’ gold. How much is in the pot? What will you do with your gold?
A1.  $500,000. I pay off my car, buy a house, rebuild my sex toy collection, get the boys a tree house, deck out the husbands man cave, deck out my craft room. And save the rest

Q2. Some things get better with age, have you? What specifically has gotten better?
A2. Of course I have! My communication skills, my bedroom skills, the ability to control my emotions, so much about me has gotten better with age!

Q3. Are you above average or below average?
A3. For what? Haha!

Q4. What was the last romantic act you did for someone? Did they appreciate it?
A4. I can't remember. But the last one done for me, my husband let me sleep most of yesterday and watched the kids. I've been sick and it was very much appreciated.

Q5. Think back to your very last argument, whose fault was it?
A5. Mine.

Bonus: I have an overactive nervous system.

Swinging? Polyamourous? Life As A Non-Monogamist

A lot has happened since my last post. And I do mean, a lot.

Let's see. I bought a domain for Missy Talks Toys, lost interest in all the upkeep, and cancelled. I started knitting and crocheting again. I got and lost a job I love dearly due to the companies lack of financial responsibility. My husband and I explored a sexual (and somewhat emotional) relationship with another woman. And it was amazing. We had a mutual breakup. And then we brought in a long distance guy, who didn't work out so well. Now we are dipping our toes into the pool of swinging, or hotwife, or slut wife, or I'm not really sure. Explore with us.

We went into the whole non-monogamy thing with the mind set of "humans are animals, we aren't meant to love only one person for forever." Like I said above, we had a good relationship experience and a not so good one. Emotions got in the way in both situations. That is when we met a lovely local couple who kind of unknowingly swayed me and the hubs into trying out swinging.

In a late night conversation the hubs revealed to me his "pack theory." He believes that we, humans, aren't supposed to expect one another to only have sex with one human- this is why cheating is such a common thing. In a pack of dogs, apparently, they all have sex with one another. And other species do this as well. While with me, I know emotions are bound to surface, at least to some degree, the four of us have decided to play, no strings attached. Woohoo for sexual experience.

And then there is the waiting game. We all agreed to get STD tested, although we all believe we're clean. Lab work speaks louder than words. She and I agree that a semi-permanent birth control is the way to go. During the waiting period for paperwork and birth control, we have taken the liberty to get to know everyone better. And it has been fun!

Quick Update

I've been sick the past couple of days, which means that nothing has got done. I called into work, got a baby sitter so I could sleep, missed mothers day, and didn't eat anything! Not a thing in 36 hours. Granted, I was asleep for most of the time, but still, made me really weak.

Now, I have 3 reviews and 2 articles sitting in my draft box and a book sitting on my night stand, all waiting to be presented to y'all on a pretty little platter, and all I want to do is click around Pinterest. I have horrible writers block, I think my blog needs a lot of tweaking, and I don't really want to write right now.

But I feel guilty for not writing in the past few days. See, I have this horrible habit of starting things (read: blogs) and never touching them again, and I really don't want that to happen here- so I am trying to post at least every other day.

I know it's short, but now I'm out of tings to write. What have you been up to lately? Do you suffer from "start-itis" too?

TMI Tuesday #3

This week’s TMI Tuesday was inspired by Friday Fill-ins

Fill in the blanks.

1. My favorite month is August because that's when the leaves begin to change and the weather starts to cool down.

2. There is nothing in this world like a fresh breeze.... on a hot summer day.

3. I love a good banana split, just vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, nuts, and whipped cream. Mmmmm.

4. Yellow cake with chocolate icing is what I like to have as a treat for breakfast but frozen chocolate eclairs is what I want for dessert.
